Mets excited by first two selections in MLB Draft

The Mets took a high school shortstop with the No. 12 pick. His name is Gavin Cecchini. They took a college catcher with the No. 35 pick (part of the compensation from losing Jose Reyes to free agency). His name is Kevin Plawecki. And the Mets’ brain trust, personified over a late-night conference call by vice president of scouting and player development Paul DePodesta and scouting director Tommy Tanous, sounded quite content with the situation.
